The Barbie Girl
The Barbie Girl is a more stylized version of the iconic Barbie doll created by Mattel. Both the MP3 version and the avatar version are very similiar, with it's more rectangular head. The Barbie Girl is at it's core a modern fashion doll, with an MP3 player that can have it's outfits, hairs and faces mixed and matched and with the online avatar version who offered even more option to personalize. The avatar version could be seen in players profiles, in My Character to change the appearance or on screens or games such on: B Central, Buzz & Goss, Club Beauty, Glam Gowns, Sparkle Coaster Race, Rockin' Rec Center, Design Idol
The overworld version would be seen across the world of Barbie Girls, walking around all hangouts and on the Sparkle Coaster Race. The Barbie Girl could walk on straight lines and on diagonals plus sitting in four positions. Special walks could be seen in Glam Gowns and on Enchanted Bay the character would do some turns like the doll was ice skating. The fairy transformations from Trick or Treat or Funky Flower & Fairy Power would just float and flutter their wings instead of walking. The overworld version was very similiar to the avatar version, it just had some details a bit more simple (certain details or patterns could not be seen) or animated things would not move like the pets inside the bags from the V.I.P. memberships of November 2008.
My Character
My Character was the function on the website gameplay that allowed players to change their avatar's look and outfit.
1 Choose a Look: Players could pick their skin color (All players had 6 natural skin colors to choose from and V.I.P. had an extra 5 fantasy skin colors), choose from a selection of hairstyles, eye shapes and lip shapes (both had some V.I.P. exclusives and others purchasable or gifted). There were exclusive hairstyles, eyes and lips available on Club Beauty which were not available on the My Character selection, and once a player removed those exclusive looks and saved, if they wanted them back, they had to got a Club Beauty makeover by another member.
2 Dress up: The dress up part gave players access to their full closet inventory. Players could pick a top or dress, a jacket and pants/skirts. Jackets could be worn over t-shirts and dresses but shirts could not be worn at the same time as dresses, nor could pants or skirts be worn at the same time as pants. For gifted or starter clothes players could pick their colors, pattern and sleeves for a very few type of shirts.
3 Accessorize: Accessorize gave players access to their shoes, bags and accessories inventory. They could pick shoes, purses, jewelry (earrings, necklaces and bracelets could be worn at the same time), and more accessories (players could picks glasses hair accessories which were always linked to a certain hairstyle, both glasses and hair accessories could be worn at the same time).
Once the look was finished a player could save their new look and decide if they wanted to print it or not.
